In 2016, 550 million TL premiums have been accumulated from producers who have bought agricultural insurance so far. Nearly 850 million TL will be paid as compensations for policyholders that have incurred losses to their crops and livestock due to several natural disasters and risks. Until now, 320 million TL has been paid to producers, and 530 million TL will be paid in the coming days.
The statement by TARSİM (Agricultural Insurance Pool) said that, for the 9 months of the year, approximately 1.4 million policies have been drawn in all agricultural lines; over 19 billion TL worth of agricultural assets, 20 million decares and 1.2 million sheep, goats and cattle (up by 50 percent compared to last year) were insured:
“Throughout the year, nearly 320 thousand claims have been received by our producers. Main reasons for claims were frost, hail and storm for crops; and obligatory slaughter and death for livestock insurance. The highest amount of losses for crops have occurred in Giresun, Manisa, Malatya, Ordu, Isparta and Mersin respectively; while the highest amount of compensations will be made for hazelnut, grape, apricot, wheat, and apple.
For 10 years, TARSİM has been the one and only address to ensure uninterrupted agricultural activities in Turkey. Therefore, it is of vital importance for our producers to get registered in the systems of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock or update their registrations and monitor the final acceptance dates of crop insurance policies to buy their agricultural insurance before the upcoming new production cycle.”
