Allianz Turkey once again supports Earth Hour event which is organized under the leadership of World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) to attract attention to climate change and environmental problems. Allianz Tower, Turkey’s first tower which was certified with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum by the Green Building Council, turned off its lights for one hour on 25 March, Saturday, between 20.30 and 21.30 hours.
Burçun İmir, Director of Allianz Turkey Corporate Communications and Sustainability Office, said: “Since 2010, Allianz Turkey has managed to decrease its carbon emissions by 60 percent per employee. Like all other companies within the Allianz Group, we aim to reduce our overall carbon emission by 30 percent until 2020. We adopt the one and only sustainability strategy and model in our market. Our sustainability committee has determined for us to aim adopting three of Allianz Group’s 150 green solutions to Turkey. We have created a performance panel to measure and monitor our sustainability performance throughout the year; and focus on sustainability in all our businesses. We turned off the lights of Allianz Tower, Turkey’s first tower with LEED Platinum certification, for the Earth Hour event as a sign of those steps.”
Many buildings in Turkey supported the Earth Hour event including many monuments such as Topkapı Palace, Hagia Sophia Museum, Beylerbeyi Palace, Küçüksu Pavilion, Dolmabahçe Palace and Clock Tower, İzmir Clock Tower, Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque, and Ortaköy Mosque; in addition to many cities and corporations around Turkey.
