In the 19th year of 17 August Marmara Earthquake, which shook Turkey at its core and caused a huge loss of life and property; number of residences with compulsory earthquake insurance protection reached 8.6 million. Chairman of Turkish Catastrophic Insurance Pool (DASK) announced that the Pool has paid 186 million TL for claims filed since its foundation. According to the statistics, Marmara Region is by far the leader in terms of insurance rates; followed by Aegean Region, Central Anatolian Region, Mediterranean Region, Black Sea Region, and Eastern Anatolian Region. Southeastern Anatolian Region has the lowest rate.
Turkey is a model country
Turkey is regarded as a model for other countries when it comes to catastrophic insurance pool models with the number of its policies, insurance rates, size of its pool and technological infrastructure. In recent years, many countries, particularly Pakistan, Iran, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and Romania have considered the activities of TCIP as a model. Authorities from the pool have been explaining the Compulsory Earthquake Insurance and TCIP to organizations visiting from the United Kingdom, Japan, Greece, Italy, Philippines, China, Mexico, Macedonia, Jordan, Albania, Indonesia, Romania, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, and Kyrgyzstan.
