Turkish insurance market pays 6.3 billion TL in compensations for motor and traffic lines during the first half of 2018

According to the statistics announced by the Insurance Association of Turkey (TSB), insurance market has paid 6.3 billion TL in compensations for the motor and traffic lines during the first half of the year. Underlining the importance of buying motor and traffic insurance policies, TSB has reminded all drivers and passengers to comply with traffic rules.

TSB’s announcement emphasized that 90 percent of traffic accidents occurred in open air and straight roads, and reminded the drivers who will drive long distances for the holidays must comply with safe-driving rules. Conducting several projects in order to decrease the number of traffic accidents and create an awareness of travel safety, TSB also supports the campaign called “This belt suits you well”, which is conducted by the General Directorate of Security Affairs, with the aim of getting people the habit of wearing seatbelt in the rear seat.

Protecting citizens against risks for the continuity of a secured life, insurance market announced that the amount of compensations paid in motor and traffic lines reached approximately 6.3 billion during the first half of 2018. Besides covering the material and non-material liability risks of vehicle owners and third parties whom they may harm during accidents, traffic and motor policies also offer additional services such as replacement vehicles or road assistance. Mobile Accident Report Application (https://mkt.sbm.org.tr) developed by the Insurance Information and Monitoring Center (SBM) enables drivers to fill out accident reports rapidly by using Android or IOS devices. Drivers can also access their policy details over this application, and are notified via SMS when the accident fault has been determined via mobile reports that are automatically delivered to insurance companies.

613 thousand accidents and 1629 deaths in 6 months!

Insurance Association of Turkey reminds that wearing seatbelts is a must for both front and rear seats. Joint statistics by the General Directorate of Security Affairs and Insurance Information and Monitoring Center show that nearly 613 thousand traffic accidents occurred in the first half of 2018. Reports by the General Directorate of Security Affairs indicate that 1629 people died and more than 146 thousand people were wounded at the moment of crashing in those accidents. During a car accident, a typical rear passenger can be flung forward with a force reaching 5 tons and endangers the life of the front passenger with the impact of the crash. Wearing seatbelt in the rear seat prevents two thirds of deaths and injuries in the rear seat and 6 percent of the deaths in the front seat. Rear seat passengers are mostly injured from being flung, and wearing a seatbelt decreases the intensity of injuries up to 50 percent.
