Anadolu Sigorta to make loss adjustment smart with IBM Watson

 
 

 

Anadolu Sigorta will shorten the duration of the process of photo uploads and reviews by 70 percent which are used in loss adjustment for vehicles engaged in accidents thanks to IBM Watson Visual Recognition Service.


IBM and Anadolu Sigorta announce that they are working together to accelerate loss adjustment processes by using artificial intelligence. IBM Watson Visual Recognition Service offered on IBM Cloud will help Anadolu Sigorta to review the vehicle damage and rapidly complete the assessment through photographs of the damage. That way, Anadolu Sigorta will be able to upload and review the photos 70 percent faster; which will accelerate the loss adjustment and price quote processes, therefore improving the customer experience.
Anadolu Sigorta opens 1200 vehicle claims files on average on a daily basis; 63 percent of which consist of smaller damages that do not prevent the vehicle from moving. In order to optimize the loss adjustment process over those files, Anadolu Sigorta will benefit from IBM Watson Visual Recognition Service’s flexible and customizable structure with the aim of optimizing the loss adjustment process over those files.


Accordingly, contracted auto repair shops will get an image of the vehicle’s damage, upload it on Anadolu Sigorta’s application, and share it with the experts of the insurance company through the mobile application. The application will also have a photo-assistant in order to take accurate photographs. This will ensure that the insurance company receives the images that are in proper shape. IBM Watson will automatically determine and classify the information on the damaged parts, size of the damage and whether repairs or changes are necessary; and inform the experts in that regard.


Anadolu Sigorta experts and IBM’s data scientists are currently training IBM Watson on the vehicle parts such as buffers, mudguards, doors and related damages. They plan to release the application initially for the use of contracted services and loss adjustment experts in the second half of this year. IBM and Anadolu Sigorta are also working together to determine the overall roadmap about artificial intelligence.


Anadolu Sigorta aims to open the AI-based application to its customers as a part of the second phase. Accordingly, policyholders will easily upload the images of their damaged vehicles and insert some basic information about their vehicles on the mobile application through the platform created in cooperation with IBM. Therefore, loss adjustment process will have been accelerated.

We intend to reduce the duration of analysis and repair process down to a few hours for the small scaled damages in the vehicles of our customers. Previously, we managed to decline the duration of small-scaled claims payment for house damages, such as glass breaking, to 5 seconds. We are now using artificial intelligence more efficiently for auto-insurance. We set-off on this path by saying “AI First” in 2018, and are now continuing with the motto “Voice First” in 2019,” comments Mehmet Abacı, Assistant General Manager at Anadolu Sigorta.
