Türkiye Sigorta supports İzmir

The earthquake that hit İzmir, Seferihisar on 30 October 2020 deeply shocked and grieved entire Turkey.

Atilla Benli, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer at Türkiye Sigorta, wished our country and all the residents of the region a quick recovery from the disaster. “May God rest the souls of our citizens lost their lives in this disaster. I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to their families and loved ones, and wish the wounded a quick recovery. As a country, we are now acting as one and supporting each other to heal the wounds of this unspeakable misery,” he said.

Underlining that Türkiye Sigorta stands with the resident of the earthquake region, Atilla Benli added: “We insurers have a great responsibility to ensure that the residents of the region can go on with their lives as soon as possible. Therefore, Türkiye Sigorta has immediately begun loss assessment activities in the region with our agents and experts. Our policyholders and business partners that experienced losses due the earthquake can reach us though our contact center and all our communication channels 24/7. With a special system established only to serve İzmir, we are able to receive claims and finalize related processes very rapidly.”

“We will quickly complete loss assessment activities”

Stating that Türkiye Sigorta considers providing solutions for insured citizens as soon as possible and helping them go on with their lives in the best possible way as one of their most important responsibilities, Atilla Benli said: “As Türkiye Sigorta, our priority target is to finalize the loss assessment activities related to the claims of our life, health, homeowners, workplace, motor and ship insurance policyholders in the region and pay their compensations as soon as possible. As of 2 November 2020, we have received 83 claims files which account for a compensation of approximately 5 billion TL in fire, homeowners, engineering and ships, from several locations, particularly Aydın and İzmir. We keep working to fulfill our responsibility of providing solutions and compensating for the losses of our clients as we receive claims through our regional management offices and agents. As Türkiye Sigorta and Turkish insurance market, we have always and completely fulfilled our responsibilities with the strength driven from our insurance market and our asset size. And we will keep doing so in the future.”

Reminding that earthquake is a reality for our country, Atilla Benli underlined that taking precautions was the most important rule of living with that reality. “İzmir earthquake has once again reminded us that our country is located on seismic belts. Unfortunately, we sadly learn during all disasters such as earthquakes and floods that “We cannot do without insurance”. As Türkiye Sigorta, we emphasize this fact with great sensitivity in all our communications. Increasing the penetration rate in especially compulsory earthquake insurance as well as  homeowners, health, motor and workplace insurance is one of our most important responsibilities in supporting the growth of insurance rates across our country and in the earthquake-hit regions. We need to remind home owners that they need to buy homeowners insurance in addition to compulsory earthquake insurance, tenants that they need to buy home contents insurance, and workplace owners that they need to buy workplace insurance.

We are always reminding our motor insurance policyholders to add earthquake coverage in their motor insurance policies so that we can compensate for their losses that might occur due to disasters like this. Türkiye Sigorta and Türkiye Hayat Emeklilik will continue to work with public authorities, non-governmental organizations and all our stakeholders to heal the wounds of all residents in the region who have suffered from the earthquake.”
