Turkish Catastrophic Insurance Pool (TCIP/DASK) has started paying the compensations to the policyholders of Compulsory Earthquake Insurance whose residents were damaged due to the recent earthquake in İzmir. Number of claims received from 10 cities that suffered from earthquake has reached 6 thousand 500 files. 5 thousand 900 of those claims have been received from İzmir. DASK has moved to the field with an initial team of 100 experts, and aims to increase that number to 200 in the coming days. “DASK Contact Center” has been set up in İzmir to manage loss assessment activities on site. Thanks to accumulated earthquake reserves and reinsurance capacity, claim-paying capacity was increased from 25 billion TL to 40 billion TL as of November 2020.
Turkish Catastrophic Insurance Pool has rapidly initiated loss assessment activities following the İzmir earthquake, and started paying out compensations to policyholders whose houses were damaged due to the disaster. So far DASK has paid 1,2 million TL for houses that were covered by Compulsory Earthquake Insurance and were damaged due to the recent earthquake in İzmir.
“We established DASK Contact Center in İzmir”
Emphasizing that they paid 1,2 million TL to policyholders of Compulsory Earthquake Insurance as of 2 November 2020, DASK Coordinator Erdal Turgut said:
“We have arrived in İzmir a few hours after the earthquake and established DASK Contact Center at the İzmir Management Office of the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning. Some of DASK managers and teams continue to work in this center. Therefore, we can closely monitor our field teams and make one-to-one contact with our policyholders whenever necessary. We are working in cooperation and coordination with all public authorities, particularly Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning and AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, Ministry of Interior). We keep receiving claims via our contact center called “ALO DASK 125”, our website www.dask.gov.tr and e-state website. We aim to reward the financial safety acquired by our policyholders by buying Compulsory Earthquake Insurance and make them feel that we are here for them.”
Erdal Turgut said that they had been working tirelessly in the field since the day the earthquake hit the region. “As of 2 November 2020, we have received 6 thousand 500 claims from 10 cities that suffered from earthquake. 5 thousand 900 of those claims have been received from İzmir. We targeted to start making payments to our policyholders within the first 72 hours. DASK plays a vital role in ensuring that our citizens whose houses were damaged by the earthquake can go back to their lives as soon as possible. Our mission is to heal wounds, and make way towards back to normalcy. With this mission in mind, we have reached the field with an initial team of 100 experts. This number will increase to 200 in the coming days. Our experts are examining the houses of our policyholders who have issued claims, and deliver their reports to us online via mobile devices. Therefore, we can finalize claims processes much more quickly,” he said.
DASK’s claim-paying capacity increases to 40 billion TL
As the number of houses covered by Compulsory Earthquake Insurance approached 10 million, general insurance rate across Turkey reached 56%. Having paid 450 million TL in compensations since its foundation, DASK had paid 230 million TL after Elazığ earthquake and 137 million TL after Van earthquake, continuing to increase its claims-paying ability further. Thanks to accumulated earthquake reserves and reinsurance capacity, claim-paying capacity was increased from 25 billion TL to 40 billion TL as of November 2020. DASK keeps working towards its target of reaching 100% penetration for houses that are in the coverage scope.
Policyholders of Compulsory Earthquake Insurance can issue claims via ALO 125 DASK Call Center, www.dask.gov.tr, or e-state website.
