Shake & Toast Suppla Broth Co.
Having adopted the principle of Ayurveda, Simge Uzkurt
Bodur first discovered the healing effects of the bone broth
in her own body. When she saw that her body respond-
ed to bone broth very rapidly, she was amazed with the
healing properties of this nutrient. Now at her own venue,
she raises awareness in people about the healing proper-
ties of bone broth. Suppla Broth Co. is a bone broth bar
located in Fenerbahçe with an unprecedented concept in
Turkey. Simge Uzkurt Bodur and her husband Alper Bodur
produce the bone broth in this small bar themselves. They
underline the importance of using the bones of animals
that were not subject to antibiotics. They have prepared
fun receipts to make it easier to consume the bone broth.
Beverages served in glasses are really delicious. They offer
hot and cold beverages under the concept of artisan bone
broth. ‘Hızlan’ (Boost up!) which is named after the me-
tabolism-boosting properties of turmeric is a good example
for the hot beverages offered in the bar, and is served for
16 TL. ‘Terapi’ (‘Therapy’ - 25 TL) offers other healing
properties for those who like to drink cool beverages dur-
ing summer with its contents including coconut milk, mul-
berry molasses, and raw cacao. Of course, you can choose
to have your bone broth as a soup as well. Gazpacho Soup
(24 TL) is prepared with lamb bone broth. As it includes
collagen, amino acids, minerals, glucosamine, vitamins
and healthy oils; bone broth responds to different needs of
the body. It is also very beneficial for those suffering from
lazy bowel syndrome or undergoing chemotherapy.
Semra Altınel, owner of Shake&Toast in Emirgan, has
had an exciting career. She was a TV presenter, recorded
an album, even sang jingles… In recent years, she has been
managing different businesses in the different neighbor-
hoods of İstanbul. She opened a boutique in Cihangir, after
that she had a business in Akmerkez mall. Her latest love,
Shake&Toast, entertains her friends in Emirgan. Those who
discover Shake&Toast rapidly bond with the place. Altınel’s
friendly attitude towards her customers and the fact that she
makes people at different tables socialize with each other
are the main reason behind this. People who have lived as
neighbors in Emirgan for years but do not know each other
have begun to build bonds in this café. The small size of the
café makes it easier to socialize with other tables, and sur-
prisingly easy conversations give people spiritual satisfac-
tion. Once they are able to make such a warm pause to their
stressful business lives, they naturally feel grateful towards
Shake&Toast. Musicians and artists are the major group of
individuals who frequently enjoy the warmth of this atmos-
phere where you can experience the neighborhood culture of
old times.
