FAV TURKEY Fruit and Vegetable Expo and Summit Begins
 
 

FAV Turkey Fruit and Vegetable Expo and Summit begins with the theme of “sustainable agriculture” to be held between 28 September and 1 October 2017, gathering vegetables, fruit, dry food and cut floristry sectors’ suppliers. The expo looks for solutions to maintain sustainability in agriculture, and opening new doors for Turkey on the international platform.

Organized at İstanbul Expo Center (IFM) between 28 September and 1 October 2017, FAV Turkey is sponsored by the Central Union of Turkish Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Turkish Agricultural Insurance Pool, Anadolu Etap Group, and Ziraat Bank; and supported  by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ICOC), Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges, Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), and Turkish Union of Wholesale Markets in addition to the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock.

Dr. İlkay Kılıç, Head of the Department of Training, Extension and Publications at the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock; Yusuf Cemil Satoğlu, General Manager of Turkish Catastrophic Insurance Pool;  Göktürk Hakan Şahin, Head of Department of Marketing at the Central Union of Turkish Agricultural Credit Cooperatives; Mehmet Zeki Güvercin, Board Member at Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD); Rasim Mazlum, Board Member at World Trade Center İstanbul, and Mevlüt Yılmaz, Assembly Member at Istanbul Chamber of Commerce attended the press conference held for the opening of the expo as speakers.

 

Climate change threatens the world

Yusuf Cemil Satoğlu, General Manager of TARSİM (Turkish Agricultural Insurance Pool), underlined that TARSİM is one of the most signification institutions ensuring agricultural sustainability. Stating that a report consisting of global risks that threaten the world at the end of annual Global Economic Forum held at Davos, Satoğlu said:

“For the last three years, climate change and consequent unexpected weather conditions constitute the number one item of the 10 major risks reported every year. Climate change is the biggest threat that humanity faces for the next 10 years. Agriculture and agricultural economy are the major impact points of the climate change and unexpected weather conditions; and TARSİM contributes to the sustainability of agricultural under these natural circumstances.”

Satoğlu added that agricultural activities bear vital importance for Turkey, as in the rest of the world, and said: “TARSİM ensures continuity of agricultural production and stable income for our producers, therefore protecting their future. TARSİM is an excellent opportunity for the continuity of agricultural activities in Turkey. The fact that organization’s theme is ‘sustainable agriculture’ is one of the biggest reasons for us to support FAV Turkey.” Satoğlu finalized his words by saying that the summit named “Sustainable Development in Mediterranean Basin: Opportunities and Cooperations” would create a huge awareness on the matter.
