Allianz Turkey receives Green Office Certification

Allianz Turkey became entitled to receive Green Office Certification for Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus buildings within the scope of the Green Office Program by WWF-Turkey. Allianz Turkey initiated projects in both of its buildings with the aim of reducing their ecologic footprint, and reduced its electricity consumption by 16% and paper by 15% between January 2019 and October 2019. “As all the other Allianz Group companies, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint per employee by 30% until 2020,” said Tolga Gürkan, CEO of Allianz Turkey.

Allianz Turkey successfully completed WWF-Turkey’s Green Office Program which aims to reduce carbon footprint and ensure that offices are run according to better environmental principles, and became entitled to receive the “Green Office Certification”. The company continues to work towards accelerating the transition to low carbon economy, which is one of the focuses of their sustainability principles. The company managed to receive the Green Offices Certificates both for its Headquarters Building in İstanbul and Allianz Campus, their operational center located in İzmir.

Allianz Tower, their headquarters in İstanbul, and Allianz Campus, the operation center in İzmir; were both designed as environmental-and-employee-friendly buildings where every detail complies with sustainability principles. Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus buildings also support paperless office models with their advanced information and communications systems, providing maximum contribution to environmental protection with world-class energy saving priorities. According to the zero-waste principle, Allianz Campus building composts the wastes from their cafeteria, incorporating them back into the nature. Within the scope of their strategy to provide solutions for a better environment, Allianz Turkey managed to reduce its electricity consumption by 16% and paper by 15% at Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus buildings between January 2019 and October 2019. Despite the opening of Allianz Campus building and 11% expansion in their area of activities, their water consumption per person only increased by 8 percent. During the same timeframe, Allianz Turkey donated 22 tons of electronic waste, ensuring quality education for a year for 319 children at Education Volunteers of Turkey (TEGV). By implementing 44 recommendations received from Allianz Green Office teams and all employees for 8 months, the company both managed to receive Green Office Certification and reduced its environmental footprint.
Allianz Campus gets 8 days of its electricity in a year through renewable energy sources
Allianz Turkey formed “Green Office Teams” at both Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus with the participation of volunteering employees. The company has been participating in ‘World Hour’ movement for the last 3 years at Allianz Tower and for the last 2 years at Allianz Campus by turning off their lights for 1 hours. Both buildings have recycling boxes for paper, plastic, glass, aluminum and battery wastes located in the printing areas at each floor. Other types of waste are thrown in domestic waste boxes located in the central spots at each floor. Allianz Turkey also organizes regular garbage collection activities in the certain regions of İstanbul and İzmir with the participation of volunteering employees. The company also generates its own energy via renewable energy sources at both Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus buildings.

Allianz Turkey generates 66,720 KW of electricity with the photovoltaic batteries at Allianz Campus, thus preventing 20,374.6 kilograms of carbon dioxide emission. Allianz Tower generates its energy via its own wind energy system called “Rüzgar Goncası”; and generates 2.81% of its electricity from solar energy. This means the building generates 8 days of its energy requirement per year through renewable energy sources. With the aim of reducing their carbon footprint, the company encourages using Video Call, Skype and Webex rather than travelling; and managed to decrease its carbon footprint per employee by 11% in 6 months by changing company cars with hybrid models, offering daily/hourly rental car facilities rather than long-term rentals, and encouraging people to use bicycles.

“We support low carbon economy”

“With the responsibility of being the first company to implement a sustainability model in the insurance market, we continue to keep our promise. We support low carbon economy, and broadcast researches, reports and articles on this subject in cooperation with Climate Solutions Center. As all the other Allianz Group companies, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint per employee by 30% until 2020. We are building ‘Allianz of the Future’, pioneer of the new-generation insurance, through digitalization. We are reducing paper consumption and changing physical documents with digital options wherever possible. Therefore, we can reduce our environmental impact and increase our efficiency. We transfer 98% of our received documents into digital environment. We issue all our new products in digital format. 98% of our communication with customers is digital. Green Office Certification we received for both Allianz Tower and Allianz Campus buildings is the proof of the fact that we are on the right track with our sustainability efforts,” said Tolga Gürken, CEO of Allianz Turkey, in his statement about the certification news.
