                                                    QATAR





                                                    A country in the Persian Gulf Region located on
                                                    the eastern coast of Arabian Peninsula, Qatar is
                                                    the world’s second richest country according to
                                                    per capita income thanks to increasing oil prices

                                                    and its rich natural gas reserves. Like other gulf
                                                    countries in the Middle East, Qatar is a rapidly
                                                    developing country. Qatar’s sole land border is with
                                                    Saudi Arabia.



                                                     The rest of its territory is surrounded by the Persian Gulf. Its other nearby
                                                    neighbors include Bahrain to the northeast, United Arab Emirates to the east,
                                                    and Iran to the north. The country has mild and dry winters, while the summers
                                                    are very hot and humid. The country enjoys rich oil, fish and natural gas re-
                                                    serves; however has very small volume of cultivable lands and forests.

                                                    With a population of 2 million 444 thousand people, Qatar is among the strate-
                                                    gically important countries with its close proximity to vast oil reserves.  A major
                                                    part of the population lives in the area surrounding Doha, countries capital city
                                                    on the east. Arabic is the official language of Qatar, while English is commonly
                                                    used as second language. Over 67 percent of the population are Muslims and
                                                    77.2 percent are males.

                                                    70.7 percent of Qatar’s population are between the age range of 25 and 34.
                                                    Children between 0 to 19 account for 12.9 percent of the population; while
                                                    11.8 percent are between 15 and 24, 3.5 percent are between 55 and 64, and
                                                    1.1 percent are 64 and older. Average age of the population is 33.7 percent;
                                                    which increases to 35 in males, but decreases down to 28.2 in females. With
                                                    a population growth rate of 1.55 percent, Qatar ranks 66 in the list of global
                                                    speed of population growth. Average life expectancy currently stands at 79.4,
                                                    and literacy rate is 93.5 percent.
