Poland
Covering an area of 312,685 square kilometers,
Poland is the 9th largest country in Europe and
71st largest in the world. It is also the 37th most
populous country in the world with a population
that exceeds 38 million. Since Poland’s accession
to the European Union in 2004, the country
continues to grow with increased exports and
continues to develop thanks to its industry and
underground reserves.
Located in the Central Europe and bordered by Germany to the west, Poland
covers an area of 312 square kilometers, which approximately equals two-times
the area covered by Georgia. The country shares borders with Belarus, Czech
Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Ukraine, Lithuania and Russia. Poland has a cli-
mate that has rather cold winters and rainy summers. The country enjoys mostly
plain lands, but the southern border is a mountainous region. Large part of the
population lives in Warsaw – the capital city, southern Krakow and Lodz. The
country is currently threatened by flash floods, and environmental problems
such as water and air pollution.
Forests cover about 30% and agricultural lands about 48% of Poland’s terri-
tory. Despite being a country where nearly half of the lands are cultivable, ag-
