RUSSIA
Russia is the world’s largest country, covering over
17 million 75 thousand square kilometers, and
is the world’s ninth most populous country with
a population of over 141 million. 165 insurance
companies operate in the Russian insurance
market, total premium volume standing at 24.3
billion USD as of 2018 year-end.
Governed as a federal dominant-party semi-presidential constitutional re-
public, Russia is a North Eurasian country. It borders 16 sovereign nations
including Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine,
Georgia, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia and North Korea. The country spans
more than one-eighth of the Earth's inhabited land area, and is also the ninth
most populous country with a total population of over 141 million.
The country harbors numerous environmental and geographical formations,
and stretches over nine different time zones. With a rich historical heritage
spanning from East Slavs to the Byzantium Empire, from the Soviets to the
World War II; Russia also has the 9th largest economy in the world. Its
mineral and energy resources, oil and gas production and nuclear weapon
industry also make Russia a great power.
