Russia, governed by a federal semi-presidential republic, is a northern Eura-
sian country. Russia, which is neighbor to Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia,
Lithuania and Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan,
China, Mongolia and North Korea, covers one eighth of the world's living area
and with its population exceeding 142.3 million, it is also the ninth most pop-
ulous country in the world.
The country, on which there are many various environmental and landforms,
is divided into nine time zones. Known for its historical heritage from Eastern
Slavs to Byzantium, from the Soviet era to World War II, Russia is the ninth
largest country in the world with its economy. Factors such as mineral and
energy resources, oil and natural gas production, the nuclear weapons industry
also make Russia a strong country.
Oil and gas country
The country is dominated by a humid continental climate, the semi-arctic cli-
mate is observed in most of Northern European Russia and Siberia. The polar
climate is also one of the types of climate that appears in the country. Among
the most important natural resources of Russia are large oil deposits, natural
