According to the statistics by Turkish
Catastrophic Insurance Pool, number of

compulsory earthquake insurance policies
reached 9 million 446 thousand as of November
2019. This means that 53.4 percent of
approximately 18 million houses in Turkey are

insured against earthquakes.

Founded after the Gölcük Earthquake in 1999, which collapsed
or damaged over 100 thousand buildings in Turkey, Turkish Cata-
strophic Insurance Pool (TCIP, or DASK in Turkish) reports in its
statistics that there are currently 17 million 682 thousand 80 houses
in Turkey, and number of insured houses has reached 9 million 446
thousand 565 as of November 2019.

According to those statistics, number of policies increased especially
after the earthquakes that occurred in September with the epicenters
in the Marmara Sea. Insurance ownership rate stood at 50 percent
at the end of 2018, which increased to 53.4 percent as of November
2019. Number of compulsory earthquake insurance policies was re-
ported to reach 8 million 480 thousand as of November 2019, with
written premiums standing at 196 million 882 thousand USD.

Claims paid has reached 33 million USD

Since its foundation, DASK has paid 33 million 55 thousand USD
as compensations for 27 thousand 500 claims. After the earthquake
