While Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s “Red Shoes”
(1948) adapted from Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name,
and George Cukor’s “A Star Is Born” (1954) with Judy Garland,
dragged musical lovers into a Technicolor world; Darren Aronof-
sky’s film “Black Swan” (2010), which brought Natalie Portman
an Oscar in the Best Actress category, “Suffragette” (2015), in
which we will watch the birth story of one of the first female move-
ments in history, with the acting of Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham
Carter, Meryl Streep, “Judy” (2019), in which Renée Zellweger
won the Golden Globe and Oscar awards with her performance as
Judy Garland, will also bring award-winning films from the recent
period to the open-air screen.

Silent films accompanied by Master Musicians

At the festival, where we will watch award-winning examples of cre-
ative documentary cinema such as Callisto Mcnulty’s wicked and
gripping comedy “Delphine et Carole Insoumuses” (2019), which
beams into the heart of 1970s feminism, and “Romantic Comedy”
(2019), which brings a critical and entertaining perspective to the
romantic comedy genre; four silent films from the 1920s will be
screened with live music.

While BaBa ZuLa, one of the most important representatives of
psychedelic music, is preparing a special performance for G. W.
Pabst’s 1928 classic “Abwege”; “East is West” (1922), direct-
ed by Sidney Franklin, “Sofa und Bett (Tretia Meshchanskaya)”
(1927), directed by Gonca Feride Varol; Abram Room, “The Peas-
ant Women of Ryazan” (1927), directed by Korhan Futaci and Olga
Preobrazhenskaya, one of the first female directors in the history
of cinema, with Ivan Pravov will also be on the screen with the live
performances of Kolektif Istanbul.

Tickets for the music program of Summer Night Festival, which will
start at the end of August and bring together musicians and groups
such as Islandman, Elif Çağlar, Ercüment Orkut, Taner Öngör,
MadenÖktemErsönmez, will be on sale in the coming days.
