One of the most important characteristics of İstanbul Toy Muse-
um is that it embraces whole family. It is a place where three gen-
erations can spend time together and share a common happiness.
Grandmother/grandfathers, mothers/fathers and children take a
trip to their childhoods inside a time machine and enjoy telling
each other about their own childhoods. The corridors of the mu-
seum resonate with voices telling childhood stories, most of which
start with the sentence “Oh, I had one of these!”
İstanbul Toy Museum has closed a gap in our country compared to
other European countries where toy museums are very significant,
and the Museum has found itself an important position among its
peers around the world. TOYCO-2012 meeting (European Union
of Toy and Children Museums) was organized for the first time in
İstanbul-Turkey by İstanbul Toy Museum. Istanbul Toy Museum
has thus been a pioneer about establishing children and toy muse-
ums in the world and brought Istanbul the title of “the capital of
toy museums.”
Istanbul Toy Museum has acted as a role model for other toy
museums to be established in our country. In 2011 Antalya Toy
Museum (belongs to Antalya Metropolitan Municipality), in 2013
Gaziantep Play and Toy Museum (belongs to Gaziantep Metro-
politan Municipality) and 2015 Ataşehir Play Museum (belongs
to Ataşehir Municipality) opened their doors to the visitors under
the counseling and the curating of Sunay Akın, the founder of
Istanbul Toy Museum. Sunay Akın also worked as a consultant
during the foundation of Barış Manço Museum and Antalya Soba
(Stove) Museum.
İstanbul Toy Museum is the best address to visit if you want to
listen to the child inside you. It is a very beautiful museum to re-
member and be moved by your best memories, travel through time
and have a very pleasant day. We wish you add this museum to
your list of places to visit…
